Disclaimer: The podcast was made for the nature of scientific disciplines course of 2023

During the course Nature of Scientific Disciplines of 2023, we were told to make a podcast. Not just one episode, but 7 episodes that made for a small podcast series together. The topic? The various different disciplines of science.

To start the series off, all of us were assigned a recent publication in the field of biology, chemistry or mathematics in groups and given the opportunity to hold and record an interview with one of the scientists involved in the publication of the article. Through these interviews we could get the insights of experts on their particular field of science, which we were able to weave into the script to create the three discipline related episodes of the podcast series. 

We didn’t just create these discipline related episodes, but also 4 special episodes on various science topics. We discussed what science is, how science works and the problems that come with it as well as the relationship between science and society. The final episode of the series covered what our role as science communicators is in the world of science.

De Nature of Scientific disciplines podcast

Tijdens het vak Nature of Scientific Disciplines van 2023 kregen we de opdracht om een podcast te maken. Niet één aflevering, maar 7 afleveringen die samen een kleine podcastserie vormden. Met als onderwerp de verschillende disciplines van de wetenschap.

Om de serie te beginnen, kregen we allemaal in groepen een recente publicatie toegewezen op het gebied van biologie, scheikunde of wiskunde en kregen we de kans om een interview te houden en op te nemen met een van de wetenschappers die betrokken was bij de publicatie van het artikel. Door deze interviews konden we de inzichten van experts over hun specifieke wetenschapsgebied krijgen, die we vervolgens in het script konden verweven om de drie discipline-gerelateerde afleveringen van de podcastserie te maken. 

We maakten niet alleen deze discipline-gerelateerde afleveringen, maar ook 4 speciale afleveringen over verschillende wetenschappelijke onderwerpen. Zo bespraken we wat wetenschap is, hoe wetenschap werkt en de problemen die ermee gepaard gaan, en ook de relatie tussen wetenschap en de maatschappij. De laatste aflevering van de serie ging over wat onze rol als wetenschapscommunicator is in de wereld van de wetenschap.
