A new academic year begins, and with it comes an array of exciting events. We have put together a list of engaging science communication events that we believe are worth checking out. Some of these events are aimed at the general public and serve as great examples of public engagement efforts – perfect opportunities for students of science communication to observe and learn from.
European Researchers’ Night
First, we have the annual science festival, which will be held at the Forum on Friday evening, September 26th. The festival features shows, installations, experiments and short lectures, all revolving around this year’s theme: Create Your Own Future. Check out the schedule and buy tickets at this link.

Makers of the UG
UG Makers is a series that introduces scientists and their work to the public. As part of this initiative, a museum exhibition will showcase the products and ongoing research of UG scientists who contribute to solving today’s pressing challenges.

InScience Documentaries
This series of documentaries covers a variety of topics. The films are screened at the Forum and are followed by discussions with researchers in the field. One documentary that caught our attention is Nocturnes, which explores the life of insects after dark, and that of the scientists who study them.

A quick start in science communication by VWN
The Dutch association for Science Journalism and Communication will host an introductory event for those entering the science communication field. The program will feature a workshop on interviewing tips and guest speakers, among other activities. For more information check the event’s page.
