Event: A quick start in science communication

by VWN

You are very welcome to join this event of VWN (the Dutch association for science journalism and communication) in Groningen.

VWN organizes these events for starters in the field (as a student: that’s you!).

There will be a workshop on Interviewing techniques with a professional trainer and drinks afterwards.

As a RUG SEC student you can join for free by signing up via the website. For that you need to become a member, that’s free for students and you will be a member even after your graduation.

Alumni can join as a VWN member (after graduation the fee is 55 euros, with a discount later in the year).

The event will start around 1:00 PM at the University of Groningen. We’re still finalizing the program, but you can expect an inspiring workshop on interviewing and hear tips and experiences from seasoned VWN members. Of course, there will also be plenty of opportunity to ask questions informally and meet other VWN members during the closing drinks. In short: you don’t want to miss this!

The event will primarily be in Dutch, but if we see that a lot of international students join in, we can try to adapt the programme. If you subscribed and you are an international student, please let us know via jong@vwn.nu, so we can keep track.

The exact program will be announced soon, but you can already register on the website (VWN members only). If you are not yet a member, it is good to know that students can become a VWN-member for free! More information can be found here.

November 2024

Sign up for a FREE SciCom membership

Dear science communication students,

We want to invite you to become a member (for free) of SciCom NL, the association for everybody with a story about science and technology!

SciCom NL gathers its members around various aspects of science communication through activities and events. We also aim to give a voice to the entire scicom-field in developments that touch upon our work, such as the Dutch National Center for Science Communication, Open Science and Recognition and Rewards. Through our website, newsletter and LinkedIn group we share relevant content like blogs, job openings and best practices in science communication.

As a student you can become a member for free (and remain so while you are enrolled), which allows you to get to know the field a bit better. If you have certain ideas or needs, or if you want to become an active member, let us know because we are open to anything.

There is one catch: so far, we hardly have any non-Dutch-speaking members, which means most activities and content is in Dutch. There is a bit of a chicken-and-egg situation there, because not until we get to a significant amount of members who prefer English, does it makes sense to cater to that. We hope that it won’t deter you, and as it’s free we hope that you want to become a member so we can see what the ‘market’ is for English content. Who knows, maybe you’re bilingual and motivated to help us with this transition!

We hope to see you at one of our activities,
The board of SciCom NL
